The Assembly of Phantasms production company is set to thrill audiences with their latest show, "Grimms' Fairytales," blending cabaret, drag, burlesque and storytelling into a must-see theatrical experience.

Following the success of their debut show, "The Masque of The Red Death," and their shows at The Atlanta Fringe Festival, the group will bring to life classic tales from the Brothers Grimm, as well as some lesser-known stories from their catalog.

"I wanted to put together a show that would really resonate with people, even if they didn't know all the stories we're featuring," said Assembly of Phantasms director and producer Valerie America Lavelle. "The Grimms' fairy tales are so iconic, and it's been fun to find ways to translate them to the stage in a cabaret-style format."

The ensemble cast includes some new faces as well as returning performers, with previous cast members Magnolia Minxxx, Ella Mentary, Valerie America Lavelle, and the addition of Justin P. Kent, Corbin Monoxide, and newly crowned So You Think You Can Drag artist, Boris Krawloff.

Krawloff wanted, but was not able, to participate in "The Masque of The Red Death" due to recovery from ankle surgery. Krawloff was excited when the group reached out about participating in this show.

"I said yes instantly," said Krawloff. “I've always been really inspired by old fairytale art, especially pieces from the Victorian era. It’s very ornate. A fairytale is like this subconscious dream world and you can do almost anything with it visually.”

Some of the stories featured in "Grimms' Fairytales" include classics like "Red Riding Hood" and "Snow White," as well as more unknown tales like "The Blue Light" and "The Golden Key."

One of Krawloff’s contribution will be a number based on the story "Bearskin," which Krawloff described as "about making a deal with the devil, but it ends up working out for the main character."

"You're going to get a more original experience than you're probably expecting," said Krawloff. "It's not just going to be going and getting a rehash of the same, like, you know, 'Cinderella,' 'Hansel and Gretel,' only ones that you're familiar with."

Lavelle explained that blending the familiar with the lesser-known has been an exciting creative challenge.

"It's been great to see which stories the cast has gravitated towards and how they want to bring those to life," she said. "There's such a rich well of material to draw from in the Grimms' work, and I think audiences are going to be delighted by the fresh interpretations they'll see on stage."
