DreamWorks 30th Anniversary: Shrek

In this irreverent riff on cartoonist William Steig's children's book of the same name, the titular ogre Shrek sets off on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona after the villainous Lord Farquaad exiles fairytale creatures to the unpleasant yet likeable ogre's swampy sanctuary. Along the way, he meets a talking donkey, singing highwaymen, and a fearsome dragon while learning that maybe people aren't as bad as he thought. DreamWorks Animation struck gold with 1999's Shrek — the first film to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. DreamWorks recently announced a fifth film which is currently in production.
