(Savannah, GA]—When Disaster Hits FODAC Delivers Relief. Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC) of Atlanta, a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting individuals with disabilities is a nationally recognized leader in medical reuse equipment is the largest organization of its kind in the world proudly Chooses Savannah for its Second Location.

To celebrate this significant milestone, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 4:00 PM at the new FODAC facility located at 7220 Sallie Mood Dr., Savannah, GA. This official launch of their second location symbolizes a new era of support and accessibility for individuals with disabilities in the Savannah area.

The location will partner with the Goodwill of Southeast Georgia and will enhance FODAC's ability to collect gently used home medical equipment. These home medical equipment items will be collected from the public at all of their 17 retail stores around the coastal area, including wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and all types of mobility aids and assistive technology needed by people with injuries, illnesses or disabilities to remain independent and active in their communities.

Senator Raphel Warnock's advocacy and commitment to this project enabled FODAC to establish this new service facility with a grant of $478,000.00, demonstrating the substantial need for FODAC's services to improve accessibility by expanding in Savannah. The grant, administered by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) as part of the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) initiative, marks a pivotal moment in accessibility and support for individuals with disabilities with a satellite location in Savannah that will serve the entire coastal region.

Executive Director Chris Brand expressed his enthusiasm for the project: "This grant represents our ongoing commitment to ensuring that individuals with disabilities have access to the resources and support they need to thrive. We offer wheelchairs, hospital beds, walkers, and much more. The expansion of FODAC into Savannah will undoubtedly make a meaningful difference in the lives of countless individuals and families in our community."

State and local leaders echoed Brand's sentiments, emphasizing the significance of collaborative efforts with Goodwill in advancing disability services and inclusion. Establishing the FODAC satellite location in Savannah is poised to create a lasting impact, fostering greater accessibility and empowerment continues to help people with injuries and disabilities of all ages regain their mobility, independence and quality of life for individuals with disabilities throughout the coastal region.
